Random Acts of Kindness

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."  Mark 12:30-31

We challenge families, individuals, and Grace Groups to find simple, practical ways to show God's love to our neighbors by doing at least one random act of kindness each week.

  • Make or buy a meal for a friend, or someone who is sick.
  • Offer a hug.
  • Talk to someone you haven't talked with before.
  • Listen with your heart.
  • Leave a nice comment on someone's Facebook.
  • Leave your change in the soda machine for the next person.
  • Say something nice to someone.
  • Donate used clothing.
  • Try to make sure everyone in a group conversation feels included.
  • Volunteer your services to wash your neighbor's car or mow their lawn.
  • Pay for the person behind you at a drive thru.
  • Encourage a friend.
  • Buy a bouquet of flowers or balloons for someone in the hospital or a nursing home.
  • Stop to ask if people need directions when it looks like they do.
  • Hold the door open for others.
  • Write to places where you get exceptionally good service and commend them.
  • Bake goodies and take them to the police station, fire station, emergency room, etc.
  • Reach out to someone you haven't talked to in a while.
  • Compliment someone randomly.
  • Pay a teenager to mow someone's yard.
  • Shovel snow for a neighbor or someone elderly.
  • Give out a "help coupon" for free babysitting.
  • Thank a teacher or mentor.
  • Ask someone you don't know well how they are doing.
  • Leave a thank-you note for the mail delivery person.
  • When you hear a siren, pray for those who are hurt, those who might be at the hour of their death, and those who will be helping them.
  • Praise a parent when you see that they are doing a good job.
  • Leave a larger tip than you normally would.
  • Draw pictures and write notes with children which they think will help spread kindness. Secretly deliver these to a variety of places (Put some on windshields of cars, hide some in library books, put others in one of the church mailboxes).
  • Send a thank you note to the officers at your local police station (or fire station).
  • Make positive small talk with strangers.
  • Give an inspirational book to a friend.
  • Let someone go ahead of you at the grocery store or even pay for their items.
  • Pick up trash off the street or at the park.
  • Give an unexpected gift.
  • Read to a young child.
